Main Street at Southlands Breaks Ground
Aurora, CO – September 14, 2005 – A new Main Street is coming to southeast Denver, bringing the city’s residents and southeast metro communities a convenient, comfortable, charming atmosphere for shopping, dining and entertainment. Alberta Development Partners, LLC, along with Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer and other local dignitaries, celebrated the groundbreaking of this final phase of the Southlands development. Main Street is slated to open in the fall of 2006.
Today’s ceremony included the unveiling of the final renderings of Main Street, with remarks from Don Provost, principal of Alberta Development Partners, and Mayor Tauer. The hour-long ceremony concluded with local dignitaries using customary shovels to “break ground” for the final phase of the project.
“Main Street at Southlands establishes a new standard for retail in Denver. There is nothing like it, period. The architectural character, urban street fabric and tenant mix are unparalleled in the marketplace,” said Provost. “In addition to great shopping and dining, Main Street will provide residents with an urban downtown, in a suburban setting, where they can experience a variety of activities including holiday tree lightings, Fourth of July fireworks and homecoming parades right in their own backyard.”
Main Street at Southlands, the heart of this unique development, will combine a movie theater, several locally owned and national retailers and restaurants, and a number of unique retail boutiques with a variety of lifestyle-oriented activities in an outdoor retail setting. Tenants at Main Street include Barnes & Noble, Banana Republic, The Gap, Baby Gap, Colorado Cinema’s, Coldwater Creek, Chico’s, White House Black Market, Sport Authority, Eddie Bauer, Hallmark, Pac Sun, American Eagle, Victoria Secret, Bath & Body Works and Zumiez.
This completely outdoor retail epicenter will provide Aurora and southeast metro area residents with a convenient, comfortable and charming atmosphere for shopping, dining, working and entertaining.
“Main Street sets Southlands apart from any other project in Colorado,” said Tauer. “With the increasing vibrancy of the southeast region, Southlands, and Main Street in particular, will be the shopping, dining and entertainment hub for the eastern corridor.”
Spanning across 301 acres, Southlands is a 1.6 million-square-foot mixed-use retail destination that includes elements of a lifestyle entertainment town center and a super regional power center, featuring some of today’s most popular shopping attractions. Retail and restaurant tenants include PF Changs, Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Ross, Babies R Us, Simply Artrageous, Pier 1, Cost Plus, Dress Barn, Party America, Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse, Famous Footwear, Chili’s, On The Border and Petco.
Upon completion, the development, at the intersection of E-470 and Smoky Hill Road, will be a valuable economic engine for Aurora and the southeast metro area. The City of Aurora has estimated that Southlands will generate approximately $10 to 12 million in sales tax revenue for the city based on more than $525 million in taxable sales at the center, and will create 4,000 to 5,000 new part- and full-time jobs with an estimated annual payroll of $80 million.
